How to Talk to a Virtual Boyfriend

A virtual boyfriend is an electronically simulated significant other that you interact with online. Talking to a virtual boyfriend can be either a rewarding experience in itself, or a good way to practice talking to a real (or potential) boyfriend. However, there are some important differences from the real thing that you should keep in mind when chatting with your virtual boyfriend.

Instructions

    • 1

Keep it simple. Remember that a virtual boyfriend has to be programmed to respond to you. Asking for your VB's opinion on Jung's philosophy of the soul is unlikely to provide a satisfying result. Asking his favorite color probably will.

Use basic sentence structure. English sentences can be very complex. Keep in mind that even though you are typing, the point is to simulate a real conversation. For example, you wouldn't say, "Today's special in the cafeteria was an unusual combination of processed meats and vegetables that were not likely produced by organic farms." If you were saying the same idea out loud, it would sound much more like "Everything in the cafeteria was weird today. Not even the vegetables were organic."

Be realistic. Sure, you can blurt out "Let's have sex" as your second sentence, but what's the point? Would you do that in real life? Do you honestly need a VB to simulate a real-world response to something like that?

Have fun. Remember, the point of a VB is to enjoy the conversations he can help to foster. Tell him things you wouldn't tell a regular boyfriend because you would be worried about the reaction. Then tell him about your dreams and goals. See how he reacts.

Get wild. Now that you've gotten used to talking to your VB, it's time to take him out for a spin. Don't merely replay events that have happened to you in real life. Try something new. Ask him something unusual and let the fun roll. For example, ask him to go with you to a male strip club, and offer to go to a female strip club in return. When it comes to sex talk, maybe you've already done it in a parking lot in real life-- but what about a bus station or a park bench?

Tips & Warnings

  • Unless your VB is a part of software that's being run entirely on your own computer, there is the chance that some or all of your conversations could be intercepted, stored or hacked. The only protection you really need is a good alias, and to make sure not to use the names of real places. Say "at work" instead of the name of your company. Say "my boss" instead of using an actual name.
