These days it seems television shows are not all that child friendly. It is sad, but parents must be vigilant in protecting their children's developing minds from watching shows that could harm their mental or emotional state. That is where parental control comes in, allowing parents to block out the bad, while hopefully allowing their family to enjoy some wholesome programming.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  1. Step 1

Turn on your television and locate the channel, title or rating that needs to be locked from your children's viewing schedule. Even if your child thinks the show is not harmful and their friends watch it, give them your reason why this show is inappropriate for their age. They may or may not understand your reasoning, but you are the parent.

  2. Step 2

After you've located the channel, title or rating to be locked, click the small white button found under the 4 white arrows. The white arrows are found in the upper middle portion of the remote control. Now, using the white arrow on the right, scroll to the right of the television screen until you see 5 icons to choose from.

  3. Step 3

Click the remote control cursor over the "Lock" icon, and you will be taken to another page. Once at the new page, you will see a box asking you to type in a passcode. This code can be any number you are more than likely to remember. Once the code is typed in, you will be taken to yet another page.

  4. Step 4

At the final page, you have the option to lock the channel you are presently on, lock the title of the show or lock the rating of the show. Once the channel, title or rating is locked, you move the remote control cursor to the bottom of the window and confirm what you have locked.

Tips & Warnings
  • Talk to your child about why you are blocking particular shows and channels. Give them a reason and not just a "Because I said so."
  • Prepare for an argument and defend your reason for blocking particular channels and programs.
