Dress Appropriately to a Cocktail Party

  1. Step 1

Wear a semi-formal party dress. An appropriate outfit for a cocktail party is usually a flirty dress with some cute heels and a chic bag. The dress is usually mid-thigh or knee length. Long gowns are usually not worn at cocktail parties. Alternatively, you can pair a nice skirt with a beautiful blouse.

  2. Step 2

Pair the dress with fancy dress shoes, either heels or embellished flats.

  3. Step 3

Accessorize with some low-key jewelry. Save the heavy diamond jewelry for a more formal affair like a wedding. Wear a delicate necklace with some diamond stud earrings.

  4. Step 4

Always carry a cute clutch or small handbag. Large totes or shoulder bags will not match well with a short party dress.

  5. Step 5

Add details to complete the look such as a shawl or stylish coat, a brooch, or jeweled headband. With these final details you'll have a completed cocktail party look, and now you know how to dress appropriately to a cocktail party.

Tips & Warnings
  • Don't wear anything too short or revealing. Cocktail dresses can be short, but they shouldn't be vulgar.
