How to Repair Cigarette Burns in Carpet

If that cigarette gets out of hand and burns the fabric of your carpet, here's something you can do. Does this Spark an idea?

  • Clear Household Glues
  • Scissors
  • Sandpaper

Instructions

    • 1

      Cut or sand away the burned ends of the carpet fibers. Cut fibers will simply blend in if they're only slightly shorter than the surrounding carpet.

      Cut some carpet fibers from an inconspicuous portion of carpet elsewhere in the room or from a matching carpet remnant and attach them to the cut fibers using household glue, if the remaining fibers are noticeably shorter than the surrounding carpet.

Tips & Warnings

  • Carpet that is burned to the backing will have to be replaced.

    If the burns are small, I paint them. I have also removed some of the edges in closets to get the material to fix the bigger burns.

    I have tried to cut the burnt just down to the bottom but not through it I replaced it with carpet fibers and hot glue but it left a big bemp you could feel the area. I dont have carpet in my closets so what next. My daughters friends have left several burn marks. PLEASE HELP

    If you cut the area into a circle it will not be as prone to come up as a square patch will.
