Though Gmail has a option in its settings for you to append a signature to your email messages, it doesn't automatically support HTML signatures. While for some people this isn't a problem, if you want to add logos, or even simply link to your websites in your signature without having to show the URL, it can be frustrating. Luckily, there are some workarounds that can be used to create an HTML signature for Gmail. Here's one that works in Firefox.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Gmail account
  • Firefox browser
  • Better Gmail 2 Add-on

Create an HTML Signature in Firefox

  1. Step 1

Open a browser window. Go to Tools -> Add-ons. Click on "Get extensions." You will be brought to the Mozilla Add-on (extension) page. Search for "Better Gmail 2." Alternatively you can go directly to the Add-on's page (see Resources below).

  2. Step 2

Download the Better Gmail 2 extension. The extension runs Greasemonkey scripts which allow you to change the look of your Gmail interface as well as create HTML signatures. Once the Add-on has downloaded, restart your browser.

  3. Step 3

Go to Tools -> Add-ons. Click on Better Gmail 2 and then Options. Depending on the version of Firefox you are using, it may referred to as Preferences.

  4. Step 4

Select the "Compose" tab and check off the box next to "HTML Signatures." Click "OK."

  5. Step 5

Sign in to your Gmail account and click "Compose Mail." Look for the "Create Signature" link next to the "From" field and click it. Once you have your signature created, the next time you compose an email the link will say "Edit Signature."

  6. Step 6

Enter the information for your signature, making sure to use correct HTML tags and formatting. Hit "Save Signature" and compose a test email. The signature should append below your message, with a line separating the two. Send the email to yourself to see what your signature looks like.

Tips & Warnings
  • If you have multiple email accounts attached to your Gmail, you can create an HTML signature for each one of them. Simply choose the correct identity from the drop-down menu in your "From" field and create and save a signature for the other identity.
