How to Build a Closet Vocal Booth

So you've got everything you need and are ready to start the building process huh? Well this will take you thru the basic steps of building the closet booth with basic materials.

Things You'll Need

• Insulation (Padding)
• Nails, Crazy Glue or other items to secure padding in place
• Fan

Instructions

1. Lay out all your materials so you can see everything your working with. Once again make sure the closet is cleaned out entirely before you start this process. Having excess items in the closet can cause your hearing to misjudge where the echo is.

2. Line the Padding against the walls so the pieces are close but don't overlap each other too much. Do this around the entire closet before placing nails or glue so you can see the outlook of it before making it official. It helps if you have a helping hand to hold the padding while you secure it with nails or glue.

3. Once padding is in place take nails or glue and began to secure the padding against the wall. Take care not to place too many nails in the padding as it will be hard to get down if you ever try to change you vocal booth design. Placing nails at all four corners and one in the middle is usually recommended. (Some people don't pad the ceiling down for their own purposes but I recommend you do).

4. Line the floor of the closet with padding also and make sure it is securely in place. I strongly recommend using carpet or some type of rug material for the floor as it can create echo spots also. This even includes lining the closet door on the inside as well. You may have to use your imagination a little bit when lining the door for the fact you have to worry about door handle, ect. So maybe having a box cutter or sharp scissors would benefit you.

5. After padding everything down do a vocal test by screaming or talking loud in the booth to make sure that no echo spots are left exposed. However; if you don't want the room to be 90-100% dead, leave yourself some spaces. Know that even if your room is 100% dead you can add digital or analog effects to change the sound of vocals.

6. As a final step, make sure there is enough room to place your fan on the floor and Make sure the door closes firmly and no left over material is hanging. Stand back and admire you work because you now have a SOUNDPROOF CLOSET
