Just because a window is located in the middle of a steel door or a metal wall, it doesn’t mean that you have to forgo dressing it up with window treatments. All you have to do is buy and install a magnetic window shade to add a decorative flare to the window.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Measure the width of the window opening. Most magnetic window shades come with outside mount hardware, which makes the measuring process easier. Restricted by the width of the window frame, measuring for an inside mount requires precise measurements. Outside mounts, on the other hand are more forgiving as they allow for wiggle room.

  2. Step 2

Determine the magnetic shade length. Most magnetic shade manufacturers produce two standard size shades, 40 inches and 68 inches. If neither of these lengths suits your window, you’ll need to place a special order.

  3. Step 3

Inspect the contents of the package. Since the hardware for magnetic shades differs from the hardware for traditional shades, be sure to inspect the contents of the package to ensure you have the correct hardware before you start to install your shades.

  4. Step 4

Snap the magnetic shades into the brackets and adhere them to the wall. The beauty of installing magnetic shades is that it doesn’t require tools such as screwdrivers or power drills. All you have to do is insert the shades into the magnetic brackets. Position the brackets to the desired location and you’ve installed your magnetic shades.

  5. Step 5

Step back and admire your work. If you find that your workmanship is slightly off, adjust the brackets’ location until you are satisfied with the shade installation.

Tips & Warnings
  • When measuring for the window shade, measure the actual window size an add two inches on each side to ensure proper window coverage.
  • Keep small metallic objects away from the magnetized brackets.
