The polymer knot is a sturdy, tight knot that is most often used to tie hooks or lures to fishing line. It's a versatile knot that can be used with any line, thread or rope, and takes just a few steps to achieve.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Double over the end of the line and thread the loop through the eye of the hook. (Fishing line is difficult to see, so we've used yarn and a paper clip here in order to clearly illustrate the steps.)

  2. Step 2

Take the loop end, wrap it around the doubled line, and tie a loose overhand knot.

  3. Step 3

Open the loop and push the entire hook through it.

  4. Step 4

Pull the doubled line tight to complete your polymer knot.

Tips & Warnings
  • Moisten the line before tightening to reduce friction and allow for a tighter knot.
  • Use caution when dealing with fishing hooks and their sharp points. Consider purchasing hook guards at a fishing or sporting goods store.
