Sewing clothing is easier for some people than others. For those times when you are in a time crunch, here is a quick alternative to a needle and thread. While this is not a permanent solution, it will provide that "quick fix" hem.
Things You'll Need
- sewing scissors
- thick, strong, tape
Take a piece of chalk and outline the desired length of your pants/skirt/dress. Make a thin line on the exterior of the article of clothing.
Fold the fabric neatly on the chalk line. Obviously, the excess fabric should be folded inward.
If this is a large hem (more than an inch), then cut off excess fabric before folding inward. Regardless, you should fold on the chalk line.
Tape the folded fabric onto the inside of your clothing article. The tape you choose to use should be very strong, such as electrical tape or duct tape. Press firmly to seal.
Whenever you have the time to do an official hem, you should do so. This type of hem is temporary, but will get the job done in a fix.
