How to Type Symbols Using the Alt Key
The western alphabet has many more characters than will fit on a standard keyboard. Characters that are used infrequently can be accessed on a standard keyboard by using the ALT key and a four digit code.

Place your cursor in the document where you want the character to appear.

Hold down the ALT key and enter the four digit code assigned to the symbol.

You must enter all four digits, including the leading zero. For example: the (copyright) © symbol is typed by pressing the ALT key + 0169. If you have a laptop without a numeric keypad, use the Function (fn key) key to access the number lock function. Do not use the numbers along the type row of keys.
