A properly measured sleeve for a tuxedo shirt rental is important to the overall formal look of a suit. If the measurement is too short, the shirt looks small and ill fitting. If the measurement is too long, the shirt looks too big and messy. Here are some tips on how to properly measure sleeves for a tuxedo rental.

Difficulty: Moderate
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  1. Step 1

Put the end of the measuring tape at the nape of the neck. This is where you begin to measure sleeves for a tuxedo rental.

  2. Step 2

Pull the measuring tape along the top of the shoulder. Stop when you reach the end of the shoulder.

  3. Step 3

Move your hand that is holding the measuring tape at the nape of the neck to where the tape ends at the shoulder. Hold the measuring tape there to finish taking the sleeve measurements.

  4. Step 4

Grab the measuring tape that is hanging loosely down the arm and pull it until it hits the bend of the wrist, just beyond the wrist bone.

  5. Step 5

Take the final measurement and go up one sleeve length size. This is the final sleeve measurement.

Tips & Warnings
  • Have someone else take your sleeve measurements. You need two hands free when doing this measurement, so you get a more accurate measurement if someone else takes it for you.
  • Take the sleeve measurement twice to make certain it's accurate.
  • Always go across the top of the shoulder with the measuring tape. If the tape is off to the front, toward the chest or to the back of the shoulder the resulting sleeve measurement ends up too short.
