A chignon (pronounced sheen-yon) is a hairstyle in which you fasten your hair in a bun at the nape of your neck. Worn by the ancient Greeks, the chignon is still popular with women who want their hair to look chic and sophisticated. Read on for instructions on how to decorate your chignon and make your hairstyle something special.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Pick a fresh or faux flower to wear in your hair. You can place a flower on top of a chignon or on either side. For a modern twist, set your chignon to one side, then tuck the flower between the bun and your ear.

  2. Step 2

Decorate your chignon with a bracelet. Red-carpet celebrity stylists know that any bracelet can easily function as a hair adornment. Style your hair in a chignon, then slip a bracelet over the bun and use bobby pins to hold it in place. Larger cuff bracelets will sometimes stay put on their own.

  3. Step 3

Catch your hair in a pretty comb. Decorate your hair with the comb much as you would the flowers mentioned in Step 1. Fix your chignon, then tuck a comb anywhere around the bun. Be creative; you're only limited by your imagination.

  4. Step 4

Wrap your hair with wire. String pretty beads on a wire or buy one already made. Twist it around your chignon or weave it into your hair.

  5. Step 5

Put aside your boring bobby pins. All chignons require pinning; make your pins the prettiest around. Jewelry designer Michelle Smith offers gorgeous handmade bobby pins through her website.
