First, talk to your preschooler about the Earth. For example, go outside and look around. Look at trees and ask your preschooler what they like about trees, what trees do, and reemphasize that trees are part of the Earth and that is why you are celebrating Earth day. Be prepared to hear things like "I like dirt because I can kick it!" and "I like rain because I like to splash my sister in puddles!"
Step2
Get your preschooler excited about a Earth Day party Parties need music! Try practicing a song for Earth Day. Such as "Happy Earth Day to you! Happy Earth Day to you! Happy Earth Day to everyone and Happy Earth Day to you!" Try pointing at each other for fun during the last line of the song.
Step3
If you are not big on singing, look up some fun Earth songs and make your own Earth Day compilation. You can always do silly dances to your songs. Make up dances like being a tree in the breeze, growing up like a tree, etc.
Step4
Make something special to eat! How about some cupcakes with dark frosting and green sprinkles? Or how about some chocolate pudding with gummy warms and chocolate cookie crumbles on it? Or a great big tasty salad? Or macaroni and cheese with "trees" aka as broccoli on it?
Step5
Plan an Earth Day activity! Plant trees or seeds in a container. Got a brown thumb? Either go on a nature walk, or check out the nearest park. Try to keep it close-you don't want to use EXTRA gas on Earth Day! Take them to recycle cans and grocery shop with your reusable tote bag-and while you are there, recycle all those old plastic grocery bags.
Step6
Be more aware on Earth Day! Share that with your preschooler. Turn down the thermostat or AC. Use less water. Don't use your TV. Shut off the light. Have them help you as much as you can.
