Whether you're celebrating a birthday or just wanting to have a good time with friends, a roller skating party will let you laugh, relax and exercise at the same time. Design an invitation that resembles a skate to let your guests know immediately what your plans are for the night.

Instructions

Difficulty: Moderately Easy

Things You’ll Need:

  • Cardstock
  • Patterned paper
  • Cookie cutter or stencil
  • Pen
  • Scissors
  • Computer and printer
  • Rubber stamps and ink
  • Circle punch or cup
  • Hole punch
  • Eyelets and setter
  • Ribbon

Step1
Gather sheets of white or light-colored cardstock to serve as the skate-shaped base for the invitation. Be sure you can fold the pieces in half and still trim them to the desired size. Also purchase envelopes to hold the cards to ensure the proper size is available.
Step2
Fold a piece of cardstock in half and trace a roller skate stencil or cookie cutter with the back of the skate or its wheels flush against the fold. You'll want to end up with a skate-shaped card with the boot facing to the right that you can open from the right or the top. (See Resources below.)
Step3
Cut the shape out with scissors, leaving enough of the folded side connected so the two pieces won't fall apart.
Step4
Open the card to calculate the area you'll have to add text. Add information by typing and printing it onto patterned paper or cardstock, stamping it with letter stamps or handwriting with pens. Include details like the date, time, location, phone number and anything important the guest will need to bring.
Step5
Add detail to the front of the invitation. Use a circle punch or trace a small cup to turn colored or silver cardstock into "wheels." Use pens or stamps to add the words "You're Invited" up the back of the skate, across the bottom or around the wheels.
Step6
Create "laces" that will also become a closure for the card. Punch a few holes along the top of the skate where the laces would typically sit. Add eyelets to the top half of the card with a setter (be sure to open the card before you set the eyelets or they'll seal the card shut). Wind ribbon or string through both layers of the card and tie with a bow in front. (See Resources below.)

Tips & Warnings

  • If you're mailing your skate party invitations check with your local post office about the regulations and cost of sending bulky cards before you add the eyelets and ribbon. If they need to be completely flat, simply use pens to draw the laces and holes instead.
