Cassette tapes are those little things that came out after 8-track tapes were all the rage, but now they sit around and collect dust. Recycle the cassette but keep the cardboard covers and make notebooks with them.

Instructions

Difficulty: Moderately Easy

Things You’ll Need:

  • Cardboard cassette covers
  • Blank paper
  • Dental floss
  • Sewing needle
  • Scissors
  • Glue
  • Ribbon (optional)
  • Rubber band or other elastic ties (optional)

Step1
Measure the dimensions of the cassette tape cover to determine how large the blank page inserts of the cassette case notebook need to be.
Step2
Fold 3 or 4 pieces of paper in half and use the dimensions of the cardboard cassette cover to cut the paper so that one folded edge rests inside the cover. Cut the remainder of the paper accordingly. This should resemble book pages folded in the center.
Step3
Cut the right edge of the cassette cover off for four-sided notebook covers. For covers with one full side, the spine and smaller end, use 2 covers and sew the spine to another full side using dental floss.
Step4
Place the pages with only 3 or 4 pages to a fold and continue to place them in the book until it's full.
Step5
Sew the pages into the spine of the notebook using dental floss at 4 spots on the spine, spaced equally apart.
Step6
Finish the outside of the spine. Glue a strip of ribbon or the other spine from the second partial cover, so that it hides and secures the stitching.
Step7
Use a rubber band or any other elastic tie to hold the cassette case notebook closed if desired.
