1
Select a power hitter. Make sure that his slugging percentage is high, .500 or better. This is the best marker of a power hitter. If you have created a player, be sure to sacrifice his fielding prowess so that you can enhance his power hitting abilities.
-
2
Place the hitter in the 3, 4 or 5 hole of the batting order. These are the positions primarily occupied by power hitters in baseball.
-
-
3
Time the pitch. Depending on your level of play against the computer, the game will mix different pitches in different places. Get the speed of the pitcher down so that you can hit several of his pitches with ease. If you jump right to your home run swing, you will find yourself hitting a lot of pop-ups.
-
4
Hold the joy stick (sometimes called an analog stick) in the up position. This will build your power as the pitcher moves into his windup and delivers the baseball.
-
5
Swing your bat by pressing the "x" key to hit a home run. If you happen to pop the ball up, stay with it. It means your timing is only slightly off and you're close to hitting one out.

Tips & Warnings
You must use a power hitter to hit a home run. MVP Baseball 2005 takes a player's real life stats and converts them. So if the player has no power in real life, the chance of him hitting a home run is minuscule.
Avoid taking a power swing on every pitch. The computer will start to recognize what you are doing and change the pitches on you.
