- Volumizing shampoo
- Curl enhancer
- Large-barreled curling iron
- Medium- to firm-hold hairspray

Step 1
Use a volumizing shampoo and conditioner. Penelope Cruz's hair is full of movement and bounce. Use Aveda "Pure Abundance" volumizing shampoo and conditioner (see Resources). Aveda products are organic and won't leave build-up on your hair that other inorganic products will. Build-up weighs hair down, leaving it flat.

Apply a curl-enhancing cream. Towel-dry your hair and apply Aveda's "Be Curly" Curl Enhancer. Curl enhancers help your hair hold curls better and keep your curls from getting frizzy.

Begin blow-drying your hair. Start drying your bottom hair first, beginning at the root and moving out to the ends. Move on to your top hair, being sure to blow-dry in a downward direction to prevent hair from getting frizzy.

Get a large-barreled curling iron. To get Penelope Cruz's hair, your curling iron barrel size needs to be 1.5 to 2 inches because her hair has just the slightest wave and no curl. A smaller barrel will put spirally curls in your hair rather than soft, "barely there" waves.

Begin curling your hair. To achieve Cruz's look, wrap 1- to 1.5-inch sections of hair around the barrel of the curling iron, alternating the height at which you stop curling your hair and the direction of the barrel. This creates a more natural and voluminous look to your hair. Once you are finished, run your fingers through your hair to loosen the curls.

Set your style. Use hair spray from Aveda's "Brilliant" line. This will give you the medium to firm hold and the shine you need to complete Penelope Cruz's hairstyle.
