How to Make a Paper Clip Necklace

A simple craft that almost every child has made is a paper clip necklace. Though this is mostly a fun and funky project for kids, with a bit of a twist, the uncomplicated craft can become a beautiful piece of jewelry.

• Paper clips
• Colorful paper
• Scissors
• Glue

1. Choose your paper, whether it's fun and colorful or soft and pretty. If you're planning to use a patterned paper, keep in mind that a small amount of the pattern will show, so a tight and slightly busy pattern works best. Use coordinating colors and patterns for a uniform look or choose a random assortment for a fun and funky look.

2. Find paper clips to complement your paper. You can find paper clips in gold, silver and a rainbow of colors to create practically any sort of style of necklace.

3. Connect the paper clips to make the desired sized necklace. To avoid kinking, don't bend the paper clips out of their original shape.

4. Cut the paper into 1-by-1 inch squares for standard size paper clips, and smaller squares for smaller paper clips. Test a square if you aren't sure what size squares your paper clips need. The tips of the paper clips should show.

5. Place a small amount of glue on the back of the square and spread it evenly.

6. Center the paper on the paper clip and wrap until you've wrapped the entire square around the paper clip.

7. Continue until you've wrapped all the paper clips.
