How to Argue With Parents

Okay so although I don't recommend arguing with your parents, there are times where we parents are wrong and you kids are right. And believe it or not, we will listen to you if you approach this the right way.

Things You’ll Need:

• patience
• professionalism
• a calm speaking voice
• a straight face
• no attitude

1. First of all choose your battles wisely. I know you've heard this before, but it's true. If you are about to argue about something stupid that you know you are wrong about, don't bother. It will discredit you for the things you are right about.
2. The thing that everyone, even parents want is to be understood. So make sure that one of the first things you say to your mom or dad is "I understand how you feel." And if you dont understand how they feel say "I'm not sure I get what your saying do you mean....?" They will be impressed that you are trying to see their point of view.
3. The next step is to tell them how you feel. Say something like "I think you are right about.... however I feel.....and I think I am at an age where I can speak honestly about this with you and that you will understand"
4. Wait for your parents response. Before going into the arguement think of what their rebuttals will be to your request. Have an answer ready and be sure to breath before speaking, speak calmly and DO NOT roll your eyes.
5. Speak to your parents like they are your boss. Like you are asking for a raise. Speak professionaly, sound smart and have your facts straight.
6. If they still argue with you say this "well I'd like you to at least take the time to think it over and get back to me, fair enough?" more then likely they will say yes and then actually think about it.
