How to Convert an RTF File Into MS Word Document

A rich text file, or RTF file, is a file that is supported by Microsoft Word. This means that you can open any RTF file within Word. Things You’ll Need:

• Microsoft Word

1. Start Microsoft Word, choose the "File" menu, and click on "Open" to bring up the "Open" dialog box.
2. Click on the "Files of type" drop-down list at the bottom of the "Open" dialog box and select "Rich Text Format (*.rtf)" from the drop-down list. You may need to scroll down to be able to see this option. This will instruct the dialog box to only display RTF files.
3. Use the "Look in" drop-down list to browse to the drive or file where the RTF file is saved. Click the file to select it, and click the "Open" button to open the file into Microsoft Word.
4. Choose the "File" menu, and click "Save As."
5. Confirm that "Word Document (*.doc)" is selected as the "File of type." If it is not, then select it from the drop-down list. This instructs Word to save your .rtf file as a .doc file.
6. Use the "Look in" drop-down list in the "Save As" dialog box to browse to where you want to save the file. You may also want to rename the file in the "File name" text box.
7. Click the "Save" button to close the "Save As" dialog box, and save your RTF file as a MS Word document.
