Whether you accidentally sent the wrong document to your printer or you’ve requested a stubborn print job that has stalled out, canceling a print job is fairly easy in Microsoft XP. Just follow these simple steps to cancel one or all of the jobs pending for your printer.

Instructions

Difficulty: Easy

Things You’ll Need:

  • Computer with Microsoft XP
  • Active printer

Step1
Click the "Start" button, then click "Control Panel."
Step2
Double-click the icon labeled "Printers" or "Printers and Faxes."
Step3
Find the icon for your active printer and right click on it. Click "Open."
Step4
You should be looking at the print jobs list. All of the current and pending print jobs should be listed. If you just want to cancel one or more specific jobs, right click each job you want to cancel and click "Cancel" on the menu that pops up. If you want to cancel all of the current and pending jobs, click the "Printer" menu at the top of the window and click "Cancel All Documents."

Tips & Warnings

  • Some printers have cancel buttons on them, which can be used in lieu of this method. Other models will automatically cancel print jobs if they are turned off and on again while a print job is active or pending. Refer to your printer’s manual to see if your model falls into either of these categories.
