Children can play an important rule in helping animals of all kinds. Just because they are small it does not mean that they can not do anything. After all children are going to grow up and be in control of the country as time goes on, so educating them early on is key for success.

Instructions

Difficulty: Moderately Easy

Things You’ll Need:

  • A love for animals!
  • Compassion for animals!

Step1
If they are taught the appropriate ways to treat animals then they can grow up realizing that they are should not tolerate cruelty to animals and teach others as they grow.

First place to start is the animals that are in the child's home. Be nice to them and treat them as you would want to be treated. That is true to animals just as it is to people. If you havea pet in your home make sure that you do all the right things to care for them such as....
Step2
Make sure they always have clean fresh water

Provide them with healthy food daily
Have your cat or dog spayed or neutered to control the population
Have your pet wear an ID tag in case he/she gets out and gets lost
You can also have your pet micro-chipped
Spend quality time with your pet
DO not leave them alone for long periods of time
Do not allow your animal to roam freely in the front yard
Make sure they have an adequate amount of exercise daily
If you have a cat make sure you regularly clean their litter box
Never hit your pet!
Groom them when they need it
Step3
Starting the proper care of your animals that you have in your home is the perfect place to start. Make sure that no matter what pet you have that you take the right actions in providing the best life for them. Imagine if you were that animal, how would you want to be treated? Everyone wants to be loved including animals so make sure that you show them daily how much they mean to you by spending time with them. Pets rely on us for all of their needs, and it is our responsibility to provide them the essentials they need if we are adopting them.
Step4
Even if you have smaller pets they need you the same as larger pets. Such as birds, hamsters, snakes. gerbils, fish, rabbits, etc. Make sure that you do your research and provide them the best care that you can provide to them.
Step5
Other thins that you can do is check what kind of clothing that you buy. Make sure that you do not buy anything that contains the skins of animals. For instance leather, and fur. You may not realize that your clothing contains fur but check the tag of the clothing. Many coats, mittens, gloves, etc. contain rel fur on them. Over 40 million animals are killed each and every year to take their skin and fur off them and it is done in many inhumane ways. It is heartbreaking the way that they kill these animals. In some cases the poor animal is skinned alive and looks around in pain as they have no fur left on their bodies. It is simply heart wrenching!
Step6
Check your shoes as well. Many shoes are made of leather and you do not want to purchase these kind. There are so many synthetic leathers and other fabrics that you can buy instead of wearing leather. Just to think of how the animal was treated for someone to then wear them is just awful.

Next time you know someone who is wanting a new animal, encourage them to go to a local shelter and adopt one instead. This can help save their lives as many shelters end up "putting them to Sleep" if they are not adopted in a certain amount of time.
Step7
When you are in a pet store look around and see if they seem to treat their animals properly. You can visit them from time to time and check on the animals and write down notes for yourself about the conditions of the store and animals. Then you can contact your local U.S, Fish and Wildlife Service and report them if they are not caring for the animals properly. You can also contact your local Humane Society and report any mistreatment to the animals that you have seen in the store. Also you can turn others in around if you see them mistreating animals. Also you can contact Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service.
Step8
There is plenty that kids can do to help protect the animals in this world and here is a great website to give you more ideas on just how you can help ~ http://www.pleasebekind.com/waystohelp.html
Thank you for taking an interest in caring for your animals. They deserve to live healthy good lives just like we do!
