Google joined the social networking scene by launching their Orkut site. It works in a similar fashion to other sites; you post and share profiles among members. You can use the features on Google Orkut to connect with old friends or make new ones.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Sign in using your Google account information. If you have a Google account, you don't need to sign up as a new user to create an Orkut profile. However, if you have never registered with Google, you need to do so before entering the Orkut site.

  2. Step 2

Set up your profile. Add your photo and provide the basics about who you are. You can fill out general information about yourself while also giving details about your favorites, hobbies, friends, sports and more.

  3. Step 3

Find your fans. Instead of friends, Orkut lists people who wish to connect with you as "fans." If you have a new fan, go to your profile page to find out the identity of the person.

  4. Step 4

Send scraps to your friends. On Orkut, "scraps" are like bulletin messages that are sent to all members of your friends list. You can include images, video links, and other info in your posted scraps. Scraps that you send and receive are saved in your Orkut "Scrapbook."

  5. Step 5

Add a photo album. Share your photos with others by uploading your pics to your profile page. Go to the "Albums" section of Orkut and follow the upload instructions provided there.

  6. Step 6

Change your settings from your profile page. If you want to limit the people who view your profile page, set a filter through the "privacy" tab within your settings. You can also alter your notification status in this section.
