Facial cleansers do a better job of deep cleaning skin than a bar of soap and there's a cleanser formulated for every type of skin, from extra dry to combination to oily and acne ridden. Facial cleansers banish dirt, guard against pimples and leave skin soft and refreshed. Here's how to wash your face so you can get the most out of a facial cleanser.

Instructions

Difficulty: Easy

Things You’ll Need:

  • Facial cleanser
  • Makeup remover pads
  • Washcloth or gauze pad

Step1
Wash your hands before you cleanse your face to eliminate all traces of bacteria and dirt. Use a makeup remover pad to wipe off eye shadow, eyeliner and other facial cosmetics before you use the facial cleanser.
Step2
Splash your face with lukewarm water. Prepare the skin for the cleanser by eliminating as much surface grime, like makeup, as possible.
Step3
Rub a small amount of cleanser between your hands. After you create some lather, rub some gently onto the face with your fingertips or squeeze some of the cleanser into a washcloth or gauze pad and then apply it to the skin.
Step4
Cleanse from the neck up to the hairline in a circular motion. Scrub gently and apply the same amount of facial cleanser to each spot.
Step5
Rinse the skin with cool water. Repeat this until you remove all cleanser. Take extra care with hard-to-reach places, like the hairline and skin by the ears, where excess cleanser tends to hide.
Step6
Pat the face dry with a thin, cotton towel. Then apply a toner to refresh the skin and a facial moisturizer to replenish natural oils.

Tips & Warnings

  • Cleanse the face in the morning and before going to bed.
  • Let cleanser penetrate the skin for a minute before rinsing the face.
  • Don't pull the skin when you dry it.
