Step 1
Put your hands up by your head immediately if an attacker is holding a knife to your throat or body. Putting your hands by your head will make your attacker feel more comfortable and less nervous, while also giving you the ability to better use your hands in defense.
-
Step 2
Note which hand the attacker is using to hold the knife. If the attacker is holding the knife with his right hand, you will want to move the right side of your body backward out of reach.
-
Step 3
Grab the attacker's hand with your hand as you back up. If the attacker is holding the knife with his right hand, you will grab his hand and wrist with your left hand, keeping your right hand in the air to use for defense.
-
Step 4
Pull the knife hand down hard and grab the hand with your free hand, pushing the knife hand toward the attacker's body and pinning the wrist.
-
Step 5
Use the leverage of the wrist grab to push the attacker's knife up towards his own head. From here, you can either use the knife to threaten the attacker or cut the attacker and then maintain control of the hand and knife to threaten other attackers.
-
Step 6
Hold the attacker's knife arm in front of you and keep his arm locked with a strong grip on his wrist and knife. Using the knife in his own hand, fight off other attackers and use his body to block. When you are able to pin the attacker against a wall you can disarm him.
-
Step 7
Keep attackers in line when fighting multiple individuals. Try to keep an attacker between your body and other potential attackers at all times.
