How to Install Mobile GPS Software

GPS, officially named NAVSTAR Global Positioning System, was developed by the United States Department of Defense for military applications. In 1983, President Ronald Reagan opened up the usage of GPS satellites for everyone. Today one of the most popular uses of GPS is for mobile applications and navigation. The right mobile GPS software will help you make the most out of your hand-held GPS system.

Tips & Warnings

  • GPS receivers need direct access to the satellites circling the earth. You need to be outside to receive the strongest GPS signals.

  • Save money on the GPS software you want to install by choosing the specific features you will actually use instead of all of the features available.

  • Some companies charge one fee for the software and additional fees for GPS services. Make sure you know all of the fees you will pay before you buy and install the GPS software. Some companies also charge a restocking fee for unopened, returned software.
