Step 1
Relax. No one who is uptight is going to handle asking personal questions in an appropriate way. No one is going to respond well to an uptight sweetie. Besides, the polled number one attractive quality for both men and women is confidence. If you are nervous, you may just want to admit it and get it out of the way. Once you do, you'll have more brain power to devote to the subject of your Valentine, and your Valentine will notice the difference!
-
Step 2
Don't wait until the last minute to ask your Valentine for "the date." They may have made other plans, and starting off with your Valentine thinking about other places they should be or people they should be with won't help your cause! Plan ahead and ask your Valentine if they would like to get together about a week in advance. You don't have to spill the beans about all of your plans for the big V-Day occasion, but make sure your intended is going to be able to give you their full attention! Of course, if you are feeling a little spontaneity is in order, you'll have to be ready for a, "thanks, some other time," response. Have a plan B (another date) in mind and suggest it ahead of time.
-
Step 3
Between asking and doing there is a whole lot of fun time to play and tantalize! Everyone likes a little romance, especially when it is not pressure! Think of some fun and inexpensive ways to say hello to your Valentine several days before your big moment. They'll be happy for being thought of kindly, no matter if they return your more romantic interests or not. If they do, they'll be excited to see where it is leading by the time your Valentine Day arrives. Find a simple, sincere way to compliment your Valentine each day leading up to the occasion, and they'll be in the mood for more.
-
Step 4
Get ready for the occasion. Dress appropriately for the day--no one wants to say "yes" to someone if their dress is conspicuous in a bad or "too-much" way. Not too much perfume or cologne either--a soft, mysterious scent is sure to give off the right signal.
-
Step 5
Remember your sense of humor. Forget the latest dirty joke and focus on wit and light humor that has a flirting quality. Remember, your Valentine probably doesn't want to be bowled over with laughter, but a little light, suggestive laugh will put their brain in the right state to want to be your Valentine!
-
Step 6
Lead up to the moment by showing your Valentine you are interested in him/her. Listen to them when they're talking--don't interrupt or try to "one up" their stories. Do keep the conversation going with questions or inquiries about your Valentine's favorite subject. Look at them when they're talking too, and show you're not only listening, you are paying attention! When you talk back, be sure you talk in a nice, lower voice. You're talking to your Valentine, not others, and talking in a lower voice is a sure atmosphere-setting way to get your sweetie into a more intimate frame of mind. Don't talk about trivial topics! To start up a conversation that isn't awkward get some ideas from your favorite recent news items or a recent event you both experienced. Remembering to flavor your conversation with a well-placed compliment! Avoid talking too much and avoid negative rants or topics that may be too controversial--a good rule is if the other person hasn't spoken in more than 3 or 4 sentences, you're probably hogging the conversation spotlight, or the topic is creating discomfort. Assuming you know your sweetie well enough, you'll probably have some topic in mind that you'll both find interesting and fun without too much trouble.
-
Step 7
Smile! Once your hoped-for Valentine realizes your intention, they're liable to be just as nervous as you. A smile draws people to you. You'll help take the pressure off the moment for both you and your Valentine with a smile that lets them know you are glad to see them.
-
Step 8
Make sure your Valentine knows ahead of time that you will be covering the bill! In today's world everyone is worried about money. Putting yourself out there without knowing if your evening out is going to break the budget can really put a damper on things! When you ask your darling for a Valentine date, make sure they know you would love to treat them to a special occasion because you really want to be in their company. If your Valentine offers to split the bill or buy you a dessert (your place or mine?), you'll be able to let them spoil you back!
-
Step 9
Finally, the moment arrives. You're together, enjoying your time together. Suddenly, asking that special someone to be your Valentine won't seem so daunting! Relax, smile, and just say, "You know, spending time with you is the best thing I can think of to do--would you be my Valentine?" That leaves the last step at getting ready for your special Valentine kiss. Enjoy, and have a Happy Valentine's Day!
