Character creation
Step1
First you need to create your character. You can choose from the corporate owned and run Caldari, the imperial Amarr, the rough and ready Minmatar, and the democratic Gallente. They also have pre-made skill sets that are built for specific types of game styles. Don’t worry though, you can always build your character later for a different style of play, it’ll just take time.
Step2
Once you settle on a race, you then select a bloodline. It’s kind of like a sub race. It further customizes the basic attributes and changes the basic physical features of your character.
Step3
By now you’ve noticed that there are five different stats that govern how you character acts in game. Charisma handles how you deal with NPCs, Intelligence deals with learning speed and aptitude to learn new skills, Memory deals with combat and some ship functions, Perception is critical to hitting enemies in combat, and Willpower governs capital ship functions and corporation creation. Build your character according to how you want to play. After you select your gender, you can spend 5 free points in the desired attribute types
Step4
Now you choose your ancestry, this gives you a boost in core attributes depending on the kind of ancestry. Choose the one best suited to your play style.
Step5
Choose your career, it gives you a pre-made skill set geared to the particular career path your character will embark upon at first.
Step6
You can select your specialization next. These further customize your starting skill set.
Step7
Now you get to customize your character’s appearance. Make your character look however you like using the plethora of cosmetic options and then you’ll be in the game after you choose a name
Gameplay tips
Step1
When you first open the game you’ll notice that it has a very “point and click” oriented interface. The opening tutorial will walk you through all the basic functions of movement and interaction.
Step2
The first thing you should do is run some NPC missions to earn some cash. The game is very open, and there are a lot of dangers out in lower security space, so stick around the first few star system until you feel confident enough to venture out a bit.
Step3
Set yourself some skills to train. You don’t earn experience in this game by killing enemies or completing quest, only by running skills to learn in real time do you earn new abilities. They run even when you’re out of game, so you’ll probably always want some sort of skill training, and they tend to take a while to finish (from hours to weeks).
Step4
Interact with other players in chatrooms. Be sociable and be alert. It’s a massive “multiplayer” game for a reason.
Step5
Find a corporation to join as soon as you can. Corporations are Eve’s version of clans. Because the game is economically oriented, corporations hold most of the money (called ISK) in the game, and can help jump start your game life with skill books, ships, and money.
