Before the days of instant messaging, people would hold entire conversations by emailing back and forth over 30 minutes to an hour. In those days, each person had to be at his or her normal computer to use email. When people were away from their normal computers for any amount of time, they could not check their email accounts. Today, there is no need to miss an email when away from your normal computer. You can go to the library or an Internet cafe to check your SBCglobal web mail account.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Go to the site to log into your SBCglobal account via the Internet (see Resources below).

  2. Step 2

Type in your unique SBCglobal member name (the name before the "@" symbol in your email address) in the top box.

  3. Step 3

Open the drop-down menu beside the name you typed in, look down the list to find SBCglobal.net and then click it.

  4. Step 4

Add your SBCglobal email account password in the empty white box next to "Password."

  5. Step 5

Sign into your SBCglobal account by clicking the "Sign In" button next to the "Password" box.

  6. Step 6

Manage your account as you normally do when you use your computer at home or the office. Keep in mind the messages you delete will not be available on your other computer, just as messages you have deleted using the other computer are not available on your web mail. The buttons to create, forward, delete and reply to messages are all the same.

  7. Step 7

Sign out of your account when you are finished managing your email account. You don't want the next person who uses the computer to gain access to your private email account. Look for, and click, the "Sign Out" or "Log Off" link.

Tips & Warnings
  • Always use care when checking your email in a public place. Make sure no one is watching you while you type in the password for your SBCglobal account.
  • Use the "Internet Options" in the web browser you use on the public computer to delete all temporary files after using the computer. Make sure you delete the cookies created during your time on the computer as well.
  • Be careful downloading attachments to public access computers, because others may be able to see the attachments when you finish using the computer.
  • You can try using your SBCglobal email account user name and password to log into your account at Yahoo! mail (see Resources below).
  • Never use a credit card or debit card to make a purchase on a public access computer. Someone may watch you and take the numbers or use the computer to read information you want to keep private.
