Children love the art of coloring Easter eggs, especially when they can add their own personal touch. These are some easy ways for your little artist to get creative with their egg decorating.
Cool Crayon Colors
Boil the eggs in a mixture of water and vinegar (about 1 1/2 tablespoons vinegar with 1 cup water) for ten minutes, then turn off the heat. Carefully remove the hot egg (parents only) and let it cool for about ten minutes. (Leave the others in the water until you are almost ready to decorate them so they stay warm.) Holding the egg on a paper towel, draw on the shell with the crayons. To avoid smudging your design when decorating the egg, carefully lift it from the paper towel, turn it, then set it back down. Let the design set for 30 minutes.
Step2
Lots of Dots or Lines
Dye your hard boiled eggs and allow them to dry completely. Pour the colored sand into bowls. Apply glue dots or lines to one half of your egg, then gently roll that side in the sand, covering the glue completely. Be careful not to let the glue touch any surfaces other than the sand. Repeat with the other half of the egg. (This also looks cool with glitter or tiny beads rather than the sand.)
Step3
Sticker Stencils
Apply stickers to the cooled, dry hard boiled eggs, taking care to completely press down on all edges. Dye the eggs, then let them dry completely, about 5 minutes. Remove the stickers. Use your finger to rub away any sticker residue. (Rub more stubborn spots with a drop of vegetable oil, then wipe clean with a dry paper towel.)

My daughter loved decorating Easter eggs this year. I think we'll do this throughout the summer with all our hard-boiled eggs. We should treasure these moments when dying a few eggs can be magical for someone! A cheap and cheerful way for fun!

This is so much fun! You could also sprinkle the sand on the egg instead of rolling. It'd make a bigger mess but little ones are much less likely to smear glue everywhere that way.

This is so great. Lovely article. I love decorating easter eggs. Back home, my sister and I take a couple of hours for a couple of days to decorate about 6 dozen egg shells for easter. Yup, we love cracking those eggs on people's heads lol.
