How to Recycle a Sweater into a Throw Pillow

  1. Step 1

Measure the sweater to see what size of pillow form you will need to purchase or make (if it is an odd size). Then, it is time to go shopping for the supplies needed if you do not have them on hand.

  2. Step 2

Mark the cutting lines before cutting with a scissors. Stitch about ¼" on the pillow side of cutting line. By doing this you are stabilizing the edges.

  3. Step 3

If you are able to use the side seams of the sweater that would be helpful and save you a step while making your pillow.

  4. Step 4

Turn the right sides together and stitch the seams leaving one seam open to insert the pillow form.

  5. Step 5

Before putting the pillow form into the pillow pocket, decorate the pillow's front using whatever you'd like, such as buttons or trims.

  6. Step 6

    Insert your pillow form.

  7. Step 7

Turn under the raw edges of the pillow pocket.

  8. Step 8

    Pin and hand stitch closed.

Tips & Warnings
  • Use your imagination to find ways to use the other unused parts of the sweater. With a little creativity you can make unique decorations for your pillow.
