How to Make Yourself Look Younger in Adobe Photoshop CS3

People say the camera adds ten pounds, but sometimes it seems like the camera adds ten years. Harsh lighting and shadows can emphasize lines that people don't even notice in real life. Luckily, Adobe Photoshop CS3 has an easy way to make yourself look younger, using the Surface Blur filter. This technique is especially useful if you want to post a picture for online dating.

Instructions

Difficulty: Moderately Easy

Step1
Duplicate your image by clicking Layer/Duplicate from the Layer menu at the top of your screen.
Step2
Go to Filter/Blur/Surface Blur and choose a setting that lightly softens your skin. Don't worry if your hair and eyes look to blurry - we'll fix that in a minute.

Every photo is different, so you'll have to experiment with the blur setting.

Hit OK.
Step3
Now go to your Eraser Tool, and erase out everything from your picture that needs to be sharp (hair, eyes, jewelry, etc). You might want to use the Zoom Tool to get in close (it looks like a magnifying glass).
Step4
Go to your layers menu on the right side of your screen (Window/Lawers if it's not already visible). Decrease the opacity of the blurred layer until your photo looks great! Congratulations, you've turned back time!

Tips & Warnings

  • Always keep a spare file of your image before you start making adjustments.
  • Get in the habit of duplicating your layer before you begin.
  • Don't overdue the blur. You want to look like Angelina Jolie, not Barbara Walters.
