How to Make a Fleece Hat
Fleece is a fabric that keeps you very warm in the winter. Making a fleece hat for you or a loved one takes a little time. After a trip to your local fabric store, make a fleece hat at home using a sewing machine or sewing by hand.
Things You'll Need
- 1/2 yard fleece fabric
- 1 yard decorative cord
- Tape measure
- Needle and thread
- Scissors
- Button or other decorative piece
- Chalk or fabric marker
Instructions

1
Measure your head by wrapping the fabric around your (or the recipiant's) head, making a small mark on the fabric so you know how big to make your hat.
-
2
Cut a 16-inch-long piece of the fleece fabric, by the width of your measurement plus two inches (so if your measurement is 10 inches, make it 12) .
-
-
3
Fold your fabric in half down the center, so the 16-inch edges match up.
-
4
Turn the material inside out, sew a 1/2-inch-wide seam along the edge, stopping 5 inches from the bottom.
-
5
Flip the hat right-side out and sew a seam along the remaining 5 inches of fabric.
-
6
Fold the bottom of the hat up two times; this hides the bottom part of the seam. Sew a button or other decorative piece on the fold, going through all three layers of fabric to keep it from unraveling.
-
7
Bunch up the top 3 inches of fabric and tie a cord around it.
