How to Go to a Concert Alone

Try as you might, it’s sometimes just not possible to get your friends excited about going to see Celine Dion for a fourth time. That doesn’t mean that you have to miss out, though. Going to a concert by yourself is a confidence builder and a great way to meet new people with similar interests.

Instructions

Difficulty: Moderate

Things You’ll Need:

  • Concert ticket

Step1
Buy your ticket. Finding a great seat for one is far easier than for a group. Since you’re not trying to coordinate with anyone, you can get your ticket as soon as they go on sale. There’s no waiting for a bunch of people to decide if they want to go.
Step2
Tell someone where you are going and when you expect to be back. Concerts often end late at night and frequently have intoxicated or rowdy people. Going alone shouldn’t mean being unsafe.
Step3
Talk with the people around you. The setting provides instant conversation material—talk about music, the band and your favorite concerts. You are there to enjoy the same music, so you probably share some of the same tastes.
Step4
If someone asks why you are there by yourself, have an explanation ready that makes you feel comfortable. “I decided to go at the last minute” sounds a lot better than “None of my friends would come with me.”
Step5
Enjoy the music without worrying if your less-than-enthusiastic companion is having fun. Sing at the top of your lungs and don’t think about who’s watching. Everyone else is doing the same.
Step6
Stay until the bitter end. Revel in every encore and hang around to see if you can get an autograph. You won’t have anyone getting bored while you squeeze every last memory out of the event.
Step7
Learn from this experience. Use it to build your confidence and inspire you to do other things on your own.

on 12/31/2007 Excellent! I used to go to concerts alone and I met some great people and had a blast. I now have someone to go with, my wife, but I attended a football game recently by myself when she couldn't go. Your tips are right on the mark on how to enjoy yourself...I sure did!
