Lemon twists are most often used to garnish dry vodka martinis or accompanying espresso, but they can be used with many other drinks. They are used for both flavor and decoration. Some people attempt to cut a twist directly from the lemon, but here is how to make a true lemon twist.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Lemon
  • Knife
  • Spoon
  • Toothpick
  • Cutting board
  • Gloves
  1. Step 1

Set up a space to make twists with a clean cutting board, knife and a lemon. Although lemon is a natural exfoliant, put on gloves, as it's more clean and the citrus can get harsh on your hands.

  2. Step 2

Cut the ends off the lemon.

  3. Step 3

Cut the lemon lengthwise on one side, from end to end. Just cut through the peel on one side, don't cut it in half.

  4. Step 4

Take the spoon and clean out the fruity pulp in the center of the lemon, so you are left with only the peel.

  5. Step 5

Roll the peel tightly into a tube and use a toothpick to secure it in place.

  6. Step 6

Slice the lemon roll into about five or six (depending on lemon size) quarter-inch strips.

  7. Step 7

When ready to serve, re-twist your strips again to make sure they are in a good corkscrew. Run the rind around the rim of the glass to flavor it and then leave on the rim as a garnish.
