How to Braid a Child's Hair
Braids are a good way to keep a child's hair neat. Once done, the hair requires very little maintenance. Simple braid styles that will not require a lot of time to do are ideal for children. Does this Spark an idea?
Instructions

Prepare Your Child's Hair
-
1
Wash your child's hair with a detangling shampoo. This will help lessen the discomfort when combing the hair later.
-
2
Comb through the hair with a wide-tooth comb before washing the shampoo off. Make sure you comb in one direction, from front to back or back to front, to thoroughly detangle.
-
-
3
Wash the shampoo off and blot the moisture out with a towel. Rubbing vigorously with a towel will create more tangles and strip the hair of its natural oils.
-
4
Use a moisturizing hair cream to moisturize your child's hair. Divide it into several sections and apply the cream directly to the scalp. Then pour a small amount into your hands, rub, and apply to the hair strands. Comb the hair gently from the roots up.
Style Your Child's Hair
-
5
Select a comfortable chair for your child to sit on. This will help reduce the squirming. Make sure the chair is a good height for you as well.
-
6
Provide your child with interesting items to keep her busy while you braid. Consider a snack, story books, toys or switching the channel to a children's program.
-
7
Choose a braid style that is not complicated, will not be uncomfortable for your child and will not require a lot of time to do. Also choose one that will stay neat for a few days, at least.
-
8
Braid your child's hair with or without extensions. If braiding without extensions, make the braids thick enough for easy loosening when it is time to take them out. Be careful when braiding a child's hair with extensions as it can damage the hair if not properly done.
-
9
Be gentle when braiding. Do not pull the hair unduly or make the braids too tight. This will place stress on the scalp and pull the hair out.

Tips & Warnings
Use smooth rubber bands to secure the ends of braids.
When using hair extensions, make sure the braids are not too big or they will be heavy and uncomfortable for your child.
Do not leave hair extensions in your child's hair for too long or they will cause a sizable hair loss. It is recommended that extensions be taken out after 2 weeks.
