Things You'll Need:
- Non-foaming shave creams
- Razor
- Soap
- Warm water
- Soothing lotion
-
Step 1
Wash your face with soap and warm water before you shave with a non-foaming shave cream. The warm water will help to open up the pores of your skin as well as hair follicles, and will soften the stubble as well.
-
Step 2
Apply the non-foaming cream to the area you wish to shave. One of the advantages of the non-foaming shave creams is that they work well with water, and don't rinse off as easily as foaming creams. This makes a non-foaming gel or lotion the perfect solution for those who like to shave while in the shower or bathtub.
-
Step 3
Leave the non-foaming shave cream on your face for a minute or two before you retrieve your razor. Most non-foaming shave creams are glycerine-based instead of alcohol-based (like ordinary shaving cream), and will actually further moisturize your skin before you shave.
-
Step 4
Choose the right type of razor when you shave with a non-foaming shaving cream. Avoid cheap and disposable single-blade manual razors which may easily nick or cut you, and opt instead for a multi-blade razor with a moisturizing strip located at the head for the smoothest and closest shave possible. You can also use a waterproof electric shaver with your non-foaming shaving gel.
-
Step 5
Shave against the direction the hairs are growing in smooth, light strokes. One of the advantages to using a glycerine-based shave cream is that you can repeat your strokes more easily over the same area without having to re-apply the cream.
-
Step 6
Rinse the area thoroughly after you have finished shaving. While non-foaming shave creams will not dry out your face in the same way as conventional foaming creams, it's still better to wash the cream off your skin completely, especially if you plan to apply some soothing lotion to the area afterward, which is highly recommended.
