The Baptist church is one of the oldest Christian denominations in America. The term refers to Baptists' belief that the devotee should be baptized publicly as an adult. Despite this difference in religious ritual, Baptists share many other essential beliefs of Christianity.

Difficulty: Moderate
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Explore the religion. Although adult baptism is the main theological difference between Baptist and other denominations of Christianity, the style of Baptist services and prayer differs considerably from other Christian forms of worship. Check the Independent Baptist Directory for a list of churches to visit.

  2. Step 2

Accept Jesus. One thing that is essential to the belief system and practice of Baptists is the belief that Jesus Christ is the Messiah and savior of mankind. Though it is a big step for some, accepting this belief plays a very important part in becoming Baptist.

  3. Step 3

Join a church. The Baptist denomination is as much about community participation in religious life as it is spirituality. So, join a church where the minister and congregants can assist you as you integrate into the Baptist community and way of life.

  4. Step 4

Get baptized. After you have accepted Jesus and become part of a Baptist congregation, getting baptized in public is the final threshold to becoming a Baptist. Many people organize the baptism as a special ceremony that marks a turning point in their lives. Ask a minister to walk you through the process of baptism.

Tips & Warnings
  • Understand that most Baptist churches have strict rules prohibiting the use of alcohol. Baptists also frown on sex outside of marriage, homosexuality and social dancing.

on 11/23/2007 There are many different kinds of Baptist Churches now days ( most of them are apostate.) and have long sinced quit preaching the Word. I'm more interested in what The Word teaches than what Baptists or any man made denomination teaches. ( The Word . . . without mans notes added by ANYONE.)
