How to Get a Tragus Piercing
The tragus is the little flap of cartilage on the side of your ear canal, closest to your face. While it seems as if it would be an easy procedure, piercing cartilage is a tad tricky. Here are some tips on how to get a tragus piercing next time you are at a piercing or tattoo shop. Does this Spark an idea?

1
Go to your local piercing or tattoo shop or ask friends where they received their tragus piercing. Wherever you choose to go, make sure they are certified by the state or local board. Some shops even have a cleanliness rating depending on which state they are located. Make sure they are the highest level.

2
Lie on your back on the piercing or tattoo table. The bottom line here is making sure the piercer or artist is at a comfortable distance to your ear to perform the piercing.

3
Clean your ear with disinfectant or alcohol-based swab. Infection, especially in cartilage, can occur fairly easily. The utmost precaution needs to be taken when it comes to sterilization. This includes the person performing the piercing wearing gloves. It's for both of your protection.

4
Pierce the tragus with the sterilized needle. This should not be done with a gun. It can shatter the cartilage in that portion of the ear. If they try to perform the procedure with a gun, beware. There are some new piercing guns hitting the market that do not "fire" like the traditional ones. Those may be OK, but again, get clarification and do not be afraid to ask questions.
-
5
Insert the ring or large stud you selected for your ear. Most of the time it has to be something larger than a stud for the tragus piercing to continue to hold its shape.
-
6
Finish the piercing by disinfecting with alcohol swab and covering with a bandage.

Go with a friend. You can squeeze his or her hand as you get your tragus pierced to minimize the pain.

The sixth step is completely unnecessary. Not only do you not need a bandage (I mean, wtf?), alcohol is the worst type of thing you could use to clean a new piercing. Piercings should be cleaned with saltwater.
