In earlier versions of Word, fonts viewed from the "Formatting" toolbar were all written in a default font, not their own font. There are a few steps you can take to change this so you can see the font samples from the "Formatting" toolbar. This can save you a great deal of time when you are browsing for a certain style of font.

Instructions

Difficulty: Easy

Things You’ll Need:

  • Microsoft Word 2000

Step1
Start Microsoft Word. Open an existing document from your files, or a start a new, blank document.
Step2
Locate the "Formatting" toolbar, and click on the drop down menu list of fonts. If the font names are all written in the same font, you are currently not displaying font samples.
Step3
Choose the "Tools" menu, and click on "Customize" to bring up the "Customize" dialog box.
Step4
Click on the "Options" tab, and locate the "Other" section towards the bottom of the "Customize" dialog box.
Step5
Use your mouse to click the check box before "List font names in their font" so that the font names will appear in their own fonts, instead of the default.
Step6
Click the "Close" button to close the "Customize" dialog box, and apply the font name changes to Word.
Step7
Check the font list on the "Formatting" toolbar. You will see that each font is now written in its own font.
