Instructions

Things You'll Need:

Use a Mustard Oil Steam Treatment

  1. Step 1

Heat a pot of water until it reaches a rapid boil.

  2. Step 2

Mix in a few spoonfuls of mustard oil and caraway seeds. Specific measurements aren't necessary, so feel free to experiment to find the mixture that works best for you.

  3. Step 3

Inhale the steam from the boiling water. Keep your head directly over the pot and breathe deeply and slowly. This will dilate your bronchial tubes, making it easier to breathe during an asthma attack.

  4. Use Brown Mustard Oil to Treat Asthma

  5. Step 1

Massage brown mustard oil onto your chest during an asthma attack in place of an over-the-counter vapor rub. Breathing the mustard oil vapors will increase airflow to your lungs during an asthma attack.

  6. Step 2

Mix 1 tsp. of sugar with 1 tsp. of brown mustard oil. Swallow a spoonful of the mixture several times a day. For best results, use organic sugar and consume the mixture on an empty stomach.

  7. Use Mustard Oil With Camphor

  8. Step 1

Mix 1 tsp. of mustard oil with 1 tsp. of camphor. Camphor can be purchased at herbal remedy stores or through online retailers.

  9. Step 2

Remove or unbutton your shirt until you're able to massage the mixture onto your chest.

  10. Step 3

Lie back and breathe deeply, allowing the vapors to penetrate your lungs and alleviate the discomfort of an asthma attack. This is a good way to clear your bronchial passages of phlegm and mucus.

  11. Treat Asthma Mustard Oil and Honey

  12. Step 1

Combine 1 tsp. of mustard oil with 1 tsp. of honey.

  13. Step 2

Swallow a spoonful of the mixture. You can repeat this step as often as 3 times a day to help fight asthma attacks. This particular remedy is most effective when taken on an empty stomach.

Tips & Warnings
  • Unique varieties of mustard oils can be purchased at Indian grocery stores. If your town doesn't have an Indian food market, consider checking with specialty online retailers.
  • Occasionally, mustard allergies can cause bronchial spasms that can exacerbate asthma symptoms. You should never use mustard oil as an asthma remedy if you are allergic to mustard seeds. If you experience an allergic reaction after taking a mustard oil remedy, head to your nearest emergency room immediately for treatment.
