For fans of winter, tobogganing is one of the easiest and most exciting sports. It is usually safe if you take the runs cleared for toboggans, clear of trees in the path. You can toboggan solo or with a group, depending on the size of the sled. The biggest challenge in tobogganing is carrying it from home to the hills. Read on to learn some transporting tips.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Visit a ski resort or other outdoor sports activity center that provides toboggans for your use there. You will not have to worry about transporting your own, and often the pulleys and lifts can carry you and your sled to the top of a run. At other areas, you will still need to drag the toboggan up the hill by the rope attached to the front.

  2. Step 2

Purchase a folding toboggan that has locking joints. You can then buy a long toboggan and still fit it in the back of your SUV or in your car's trunk.

  3. Step 3

Invest in a good car carrier if you have a large family or a lot of friends who like to toboggan together. You need good strong bungee cords to tie the toboggan to the carrier. Lay the sled face down on the carrier to avoid airlifts under the front curve on the toboggan.

  4. Step 4

Remove cushions before tying the toboggan on the outside of a vehicle. It is best to let the cushions dry out after each use anyway. Store them inside the vehicle to prevent them from flapping around or from flying off.

  5. Step 5

Tie down a toboggan on a trailer if you are pulling other outdoor sports vehicles such as sleds with runners or snowmobiles. An open, flat trailer with low-gated sides is all you need to tow your toys. Lay the toboggan flat and tie a red flag to the end if it sticks out the rear end of the trailer.
