How to Add Search Engines to Firefox's Search Box

Firefox is still used by less people than Internet Explorer; but its popularity has been increasing in recent years. One reason is the user's ability to customize the browser to meet their needs. For example, you can add your own search engines to Firefox's search box, so you can perform all of your favorite searches with a few clicks of your mouse. Read on to learn more.

Instructions
  1. Step 1

    Find the Firefox search box in the upper right-hand corner of the browser. Point your mouse at the drop down menu, just to the right of the Google logo. Click to display a list of the current search engines you can search from by default.

  2. Step 2

    Choose "Manage Search Engines" from the drop down menu. This option is at the bottom of the drop down menu.

  3. Step 3

    Click the "Get More Search Engines" link from the window which pops up. From the window, you can also rearrange the current search engines, moving them up and down the list.

  4. Step 4

    Look over the list of search engines you can add. There are a variety of choices from popular search engines to top websites. When you find one you would like to add, click on it and then click the "Add" button. It adds to your search engine choices immediately.

  5. Step 5

    Go down to the "Additional Researches" section of the website if you didn't find the search engines you were look for. Here you'll find a link to "User Created Search Engines." These are search engine plug-ins developed by Firefox users and can be added by the same procedure as the other search engines.

Tips & Warnings
  • Click the "Start Using Right Away" check box before you click the "Add" button and the search engine automatically becomes the default Firefox search engine.
