How to Be the Center of Attention at Parties

It always seems that the people who are the center of attention at parties are not doing anything that different than you are, but they still somehow are the focus of the room. Getting attention actually starts with your attitude and is polished off by your appearance. There are a few things you can work on to be the center of attention at the next party you attend.

1. Be confident. Confidence, even if you are faking it, is something that attracts attention. Stand tall and own the space you stand in. If you believe in yourself, others will naturally be drawn to you.

2. Find your sense of humor. Laughing at yourself if you trip or giggling encouragingly at a funny joke are great ways to show your sense of humor. This shows people that you are not conceited and are as human as they are.

3. Have self esteem. If you want others to value you, you have to value yourself. This does not mean that you act better than other people, it simply means that you show characteristics proving you are comfortable with yourself.

4. Use whatever talents you have to stand out in the crowd. If you are great with jokes, tell a few to the people around you. If you can sing, grab a mike, or dance, light up the dance floor. Stun others in conversation with intelligent tidbits and newsworthy notes.

5. Act happy. Other people are drawn to happiness, especially at parties as no one wants to be stuck in the corner with a depressed or unhappy person. An added plus is that acting happy may actually cause you to be genuinely happy.

6. Dress to impress. Do not use scant outfits or outrageous trends to gain the attention of the others in the room. Instead, try to appear clean, neat, and somewhat stylish. Take the time to shake the wrinkles out of your clothes, freshen up your face and hair and find a great scent that accentuates you as an individual.
