Have you always wanted to paint something abstract, but didn't know where to start? here is a great and easy way to get an started.

Instructions

Difficulty: Moderate

Things You’ll Need:

  • magazine
  • scissors
  • drawing pad
  • pencil
  • ruler
  • paint
  • primed painting surface
  • paint brushes
Step1
Flip through magazines and look for ads with interesting shapes, colors, designs or anything that appeals to you.
Step2
Cut out 1x2 inch rectangles from a few different adds. At least 5.
Step3
Glue the 1x2 inch cutouts onto a drawing pad.
Step4
Next to each cutout, measure a 1x2 inch box and make a thumbnail value sketch of the image you pasted.
Step5
After you've completed your value thumbnails, select your faveorite.
Step6
Transfer you drawing onto your primed painting surface and begin your abstract painting.
Step7
Once painting is completely dry, Sign your name and varnish it if you like.

Tips & Warnings

  • Abstract can be anything from Jackson Pollock style splashed of paint on a canvas, to cubist style work like Picasso or whatever image you take and abstract from it's original version.
  • Start with an underpainting/first layer of thin paint, then build up your surface
