Take measurements of the entire garden space. Accurate measurements are critical to the task. Ask a second person to assist either walking off the perimeter of the garden or use a spool of string to complete the task more quickly.

2
Decide on the material to be used. Some prefer a post and poultry wire solution. Bury the wire at least a foot under the soil for the entire perimeter of the garden to prevent skunks and other animals from digging their way underneath the fence.

Use a wood slat fence if pests aren't a problem. These are more attractive and can be painted to coordinate with existing landscaping details.

Dig post holes at each corner to a depth of about 18 inches. Sink the posts with ready set concrete mix for a sturdy fence. Allow cement to dry completely. Add additional posts to the length of the fence line where needed. Connect these posts with a wire fence solution or allow them to serve as anchors for the wooden slats.

Construct a door or gate at one end or corner of the garden fence to serve as entry and exit from the garden. A gate can be a simple two hinge model or a hook and latch gate.
