How to Make a Bob the Builder Costume

Bob the Builder, a popular children's character who is in the construction business, encourages children to work together to finish projects. Fortunately for parents, to make a Bob the Builder costume for Halloween is simple and can be inexpensive when you use items you probably already have at home if your child is a Bob the Builder fan.

Instructions

    • 1

Find or buy denim overalls and a checkered flannel shirt in your child's size. If you can find a checkered shirt, that would be perfect, if not, you can easily make one yourself. Start with a red long-sleeved shirt. Cut a sponge into a small square shape and dip into yellow fabric paint. Stamp yellow squares on the shirt to make a checkered pattern. Allow to dry.

Get a tool belt and construction hat. You can go all out by buying the Bob the Builder hat and tool belt set that is available, or you could go the cheaper route. Party supply stores carry plastic construction hats. Discount dollar stores usually have plastic work tools for kids, if not an entire tool belt set. In a pinch, you can always tie the tools to a regular belt to make your own tool belt.

Find some boots. You can't have a construction worker without work boots, so make sure to include sturdy black or brown work boots with the costume.

Finish out the costume with a tin work bucket that your child can also use to collect candy when going trick-or-treating.
