A jalousie window, or crank window, has the benefit of relatively few moving parts. Repairing a window of this kind only takes a bit of mechanical ability, a resource for replacement parts and a little know-how.

1
Assess what parts need to be replaced; it is often the seal. Other things that typically need to be replaced include the arm, which pushes or pulls the window in or out and can get bent or broken, and the crank, which typically gets stripped or broken off. To repair a sticking window, you might only need some silicone lubricant.

2
Buy the parts. A great resource is Pickens Window Parts. Visit them on the web at pickenswindowparts.com or call (800) 401-4432. Be ready to describe the part that needs replacement when you call.

3
Check the rivets holding the glass clips in place. Be sure they're not loose and check to make sure your window glass will stay in place.
-
4
Disconnect the operator mechanism from the main stay bar. To do this on most models, simply open the window all the way until the gap in the stay bar is exposed and you can remove the operating mechanism. Move the window manually to a good working position.
-
5
Replace the necessary parts to repair the window and reassemble. Lubricate all moving parts to get the most life out of your replacement parts.
