Picture frames accumulate a great amount of dust and dirt. There are many small areas on even the simplest picture frame that need to be cleaned regularly. A well-cared-for frame will enrich the photo or painting beneath the glass. The following will help you properly clean your picture frames.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Lamb's wool duster
  • Soft rag
  • Glass cleaner
  • Cleaner specific to the frame
  • Canned air
  1. Step 1

Remove the picture frame from the wall or sitting position to dust or clean. This allows you full coverage for cleaning.

  2. Step 2

Dust picture frames regularly with dusters made from lamb's wool.

  3. Step 3

Spray glass cleaner onto a soft rag and wipe it in a circular motion to clean the glass.

  4. Step 4

Clean the frame itself with a soft rag and cleaner that is specified for that type of frame.

  5. Step 5

Use canned air to blow the dust out of the small crevices.

  6. Step 6

Remember to dust and clean the backs of the picture frames as well. Felt backs are especially bad about collecting dust.

Tips & Warnings
  • To get into the small areas around the glass, remove the backing, picture and matte. This will allow you to pop out the glass to thoroughly clean it.
  • A cotton swab also help get into the small crevices.
  • Do not use paper towels to clean picture frames.
  • Spraying the glass cleaner directly onto the glass may allow the cleaner to seep under the frame and damage the matte or picture.
