How to Clean Picture Frames

Picture frames accumulate a great amount of dust and dirt. There are many small areas on even the simplest picture frame that need to be cleaned regularly. A well-cared-for frame will enrich the photo or painting beneath the glass. The following will help you properly clean your picture frames.

Things You'll Need:

• Lamb's wool duster
• Soft rag
• Glass cleaner
• Cleaner specific to the frame
• Canned air

1. Remove the picture frame from the wall or sitting position to dust or clean. This allows you full coverage for cleaning.

2. Dust picture frames regularly with dusters made from lamb's wool.

3. Spray glass cleaner onto a soft rag and wipe it in a circular motion to clean the glass.

4. Clean the frame itself with a soft rag and cleaner that is specified for that type of frame.

5. Use canned air to blow the dust out of the small crevices.

6. Remember to dust and clean the backs of the picture frames as well. Felt backs are especially bad about collecting dust.

Tips & Warnings

• To get into the small areas around the glass, remove the backing, picture and matte. This will allow you to pop out the glass to thoroughly clean it.
• A cotton swab also help get into the small crevices.
• Do not use paper towels to clean picture frames.
• Spraying the glass cleaner directly onto the glass may allow the cleaner to seep under the frame and damage the matte or picture.
