How to Switch Users in Mac OS Tiger

Mac OS Tiger provides functionality for multiple users on a single system, giving each user her own login name and password. This makes it easy for users to have their own customized settings and desktop appearance. It's easy to switch between users either rapidly and with minimal security or with a fully functioning password system. The method you use is up to you, but it should factor in your own computer's potential security risk.

Tips & Warnings

  • Mac OS 10 continues to receive updates and enhancements, so always check at the Apple website to determine if there are patches available for Tiger (see Resources below).

  • Don't forget the password for your account, or you may run the risk of having to create a completely new account. You will also need to have the system administrator retrieve files manually for those accounts that can no longer be accessed via password.
